The Curious Incident of 3/4 a Shwarma Wrap

Last Saturday (I'm so far behind in my blog posts!) was a wonderful day. My roommates and I visited King's Cross station and fell victim to the tourist trap that is Platform 9 3/4.

Not only did we fall victim to it, we were besides ourselves with excitement. Absolutely giddy. We waited in line to take a picture and honestly could hardly contain ourselves. I can only imagine what we'll be like when we visit "The Making of Harry Potter" in a few weeks. Here are our fangirl pictures:

I gotta get back to Hogwarts!

You'll notice I'm a Hufflepuff. If you've seen AVPM you won't find that surprising at all.

We then went into the gift shop:

...where we very much enjoyed playing with the cool toys.

Hermione's wand

As we were leaving we took a moment to take in the true Platform 9 3/4.

Here it is. In all its glory.

A shot of the ceiling. It's a beautiful station.

At 2 we got to the Apollo Theatre at 2, as we had been instructed, and no one was there. Just us and a handful of elderly people. We were ridiculously confused (and worried) for about 15 minutes before realizing that the show didn't start until 2:30 and we had missed the email that had been sent out telling us that. So we wandered around some nearby stores and then headed back. The show, "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time", was incredible. Absolutely astonishing. It was so masterfully done and it was very unique in its presentation. The story is about a teenager with an autistic spectrum condition who attempts to solve the mystery of who killed his neighbor's dog, for which he has been wrongfully accused. Throughout his investigation he uncovers secrets about his family and their past. The stage was set up as giant sheets of graph paper and all the walls and floor were chalkboards. The set and the use of multimedia (which was masterfully incorporated) helped illustrate what goes on in the mind of someone with such a mental state. The acting was phenomenal. There were very few, if any, qualms I had about the show, which very rarely can be said. I've seen 6 plays since "Curious Incident" and none compare. Shows like this remind me of why I got into theatre. Wonderful, wonderful show.

I added lots of pictures because that's how much I loved it.

After "Curious Incident" we decided to check out Portobello Road, which is another of London's outdoor markets. Unfortunately their website lied and we thought the vendors shut down at 7 when really it closes at 6. We got there at about 5:45 and didn't have much time to enjoy it. I will definitely be going back, however. The only booths that were still open at that point were the food stands, which was perfect because we were starving! A few people bought crepes, and others of us bought wraps.

Mine was chicken shwarma... so good.

We didn't get to spend time in the market, but we did some window shopping (and some real shopping) at some cool nearby shops. Lots of clothing stores and lots of antique stores. I bought my first souvenir, a Union Jack sweater. There wasn't much to do after that, so we headed back to the flats.
